Some road trips stay with you long after you return home. My recent journey through the Maredumilli route between Bhadrachalam and Annavaram was one of those trips.
What I loved about this journey was how much we experienced along the way — a little drizzle, cool weather, misty mountains, winding ghat roads, beautiful viewpoints and, of course, plenty of stops to enjoy the surroundings.
We also got to taste bamboo biryani at Aranya Restaurant, enjoy a hot cup of tea along the way, and explore a roadside tribal store where we found everything from honey and Kunkudu Kaya to dried peas, chickpeas, toor dal, tamarind and traditional hair-care products.
In this post, I’m sharing the sights, food, little discoveries and practical travel information from our Maredumilli road trip. If you’re planning a visit yourself, I hope my experience gives you a few ideas for your journey.
The Journey Begins
We started our journey with the excitement that usually comes with a road trip — not knowing exactly what little experiences the road would bring. The route between Bhadrachalam and Annavaram takes you through the beautiful Maredumilli region, where the landscape gradually changes as you enter the forested and hilly areas.

One of the first things that caught our attention was the weather. There was a light drizzle along the way, making the surroundings feel fresh and pleasant. The combination of greenery, cloudy skies and cool weather made driving through the route even more enjoyable.
And then came the roads. The winding roads through the hills, occasional bends and changing elevations made the drive feel like an adventure in itself. Instead of rushing to reach the destination, we found ourselves enjoying the journey and stopping whenever we came across something worth seeing.
Misty Mountains, Ghat Roads & Viewpoints
As we continued through the Maredumilli stretch, the scenery became more and more beautiful. The winding ghat roads took us through green hills and forested stretches, with a new view appearing around almost every bend.

The light drizzle and fog added something special to the landscape. The mountains looked different as the mist moved across them, sometimes covering parts of the hills and then revealing them again. It was one of those moments when you naturally want to stop and take a few pictures.
We stopped at a few viewpoints along the way and spent some time simply enjoying the scenery. The combination of green mountains, cloudy skies, cool weather and winding roads made this one of my favorite parts of the journey.
What I enjoyed most was the feeling of not being in a hurry. We could stop, look around, take pictures and enjoy the surroundings before getting back on the road. Sometimes, that slow pace is exactly what makes a road trip memorable.
A Hot Cup of Tea Along the Way
During a road trip, even a simple cup of tea can become a memorable part of the journey. With the cool weather and little drizzle around us, stopping for a hot cup of tea felt just right.

The warmth of the tea, the cool air and the misty surroundings made that short break especially enjoyable. We took some time to relax, enjoy the weather and look around before getting back on the road.
It was a small moment, but these are often the moments I remember most from a road trip — stopping somewhere without a big plan, having a hot cup of tea and simply enjoying where you are.
Bamboo Chicken & Bamboo Biryani — A Taste of the Forest
One of the food highlights of our trip was trying bamboo biryani at Aranya Restaurant. I was curious to see how biryani cooked inside bamboo would taste, and the preparation itself was interesting to watch.

The rice, chicken and spices were placed inside a bamboo and cooked over charcoal for around 20 to 30 minutes. Once it was ready, it was served hot, which made it even more enjoyable in the cool weather.
The biryani was hot, mildly spicy and tasty. I particularly liked the combination of the familiar biryani flavors with the unique bamboo cooking method.
For me, this was more than just trying a different dish. It was part of the travel experience — discovering a different way of preparing food and enjoying it while exploring a beautiful region.
Discovering Local & Tribal Products
Another interesting stop during our journey was a roadside tribal store where we found a variety of locally available products. It was one of those unexpected stops that made the road trip even more interesting.
We bought dried peas, dried chickpeas, toor dal, tamarind and honey. We also picked up shampoo nuts, locally known as Kunkudu Kaya, which are traditionally used for hair care.
Another interesting find was a few types of roots that can be mixed with coconut oil for hair care. I hadn’t come across some of these products in this form before, so it was interesting to see them being sold and learn about their traditional uses.
We also bought traditional broom sticks. Looking at all these everyday products together made me appreciate how much variety can be found in locally sourced and traditionally used products.
We ended up taking quite a few things home with us. For me, this was one of the nicest parts of the trip because it wasn’t just about sightseeing — we also got to discover local products and take a small reminder of the journey back home.
The Little Moments That Made the Trip Special
Looking back, I think what made this road trip special was not one particular attraction, but the combination of many small experiences.
The light drizzle, cool weather, misty mountains and winding roads made the drive enjoyable. Stopping at viewpoints, taking a break for hot tea, trying bamboo biryani and browsing the local products along the way gave us plenty of moments to remember.
There was no pressure to rush from one place to another. We could stop when we wanted, enjoy the views, take pictures and simply spend time on the road.
That’s what I love about road trips. You may start with a destination in mind, but the unexpected stops, food, conversations and little discoveries along the way often become the memories you carry back home.

Would I Do This Road Trip Again?
Absolutely! I would happily take this route again. There was something enjoyable about the entire experience — from the winding roads and misty mountains to the local food and unexpected roadside discoveries.
I would especially love to experience the route in different weather conditions and explore more of the viewpoints and surrounding areas. For me, the biggest attraction wasn’t just reaching Maredumilli; it was everything we experienced along the way.
Final Thoughts
Our Maredumilli road trip turned out to be a wonderful mix of nature, food, local experiences and simple moments. The misty mountains, winding ghat roads, little drizzle and beautiful greenery made the journey enjoyable from start to finish.
Trying bamboo biryani at Aranya Restaurant and discovering local products such as honey, Kunkudu Kaya, grains, tamarind and other items added something different to the experience.
But what I enjoyed most was the journey itself. We weren’t simply travelling from Bhadrachalam to Annavaram — we were enjoying the roads, stopping whenever something caught our attention and discovering something new along the way.
Sometimes, the best road trips are not about how quickly you reach your destination. They are about the views you stop for, the food you try, the people and places you discover, and the little moments that stay with you after the journey is over.
And this Maredumilli road trip was definitely one of those journeys for me. ❤️
